This weeks TWID went over Armor 3.0 changes, how current gear will match in The Edge of Fate, along with how Exotics will look at launch - including Exotic class items. With your current gear (or Armor 2.0), they will just have their stats moved over 1:1, with any armor that drops for you in the new system being Armor 3.0. But what does the new system look like? Here's some quick explanations!

Armor Archetypes

These are essentially randomly dropped armor pieces that are themed around specific playstyles, with a highest primary stat and high secondary stat. Don't worry, you can still use stat mods to increase a third stat. Here's what those Archetypes look like:

Paragon: Super primary, Melee secondary

Grenadier: Grenade primary, Super secondary

Specialist: Class primary, Weapons secondary

Brawler: Melee primary, Health secondary

Bulwark: Health primary, Class secondary

Gunner: Weapons primary, Grenade secondary

Masterworking

Along with all of these changes above, the Masterworking system is also getting an update for any Armor 3.0 drops.

  • All Armor 3.0 drops will have their maximum energy available regardless of Masterwork level (more details below).

  • Masterworking armor will no longer increase all stats - the amount granted by the primary, secondary, and tertiary stats rolled will not change.

  • Masterworking now increases your lowest three stats on that piece of armor by +1 with each level

    • This has a max of +5 in each, or +15 stats total

Gear Tiers

These types of armor represents their quality and strength compared to other Legendary drops. The higher in tier you go, the more benefits you get with Tier 4 and 5. In the case of Armor 3.0, these influences the total stats of each piece of gear, with Tier 4 and 5 offering extra bonuses; extra mod energy (from 10 to 11) at Tier 4, and a randomly selected tuned stat at Tier 5. Here's a full list of Tiers, values, and bonuses;

Tier 1: 52-57 (67-72 when Masterworked)

Tier 2: 58-63 (73-78 when Masterworked)

Tier 3: 64-69 (79-84 when Masterworked)

Tier 4: 70-75 (85-90 when Masterworked, with Extra Mod Energy)

Tier 5: 75 (90 when Masterworked, with Extra Mod energy, and a Random Tuned Stat)

What does that Random Tuned Stat do? Essentially allows you to choose between moving 5 stats from any other stat to balance out your stats, which increases the armors 3 lowest stats by 1. In regards on how to get the higher gear tiers, that will be talked about in a future blog.

New Gear

Seasonal gear is getting a complete overall into something called New Gear, to give more focus to buildcrafting throughout the game. New Gear will offer more in PvE content, drop with Seasonal Bonus Power, and receive bonuses from the current Seasonal Artifact as seen below (provided from the Dev Stream on June 24th. This does not work in PvP).

There will also be an exclusive playlist in PvP where players must use New Gear. This was made with the intention to create an even playing field for newer players, as well as to test out weapons for those who are looking to experiment. In addition to this, there is also a slew of exotics that will be designated as Featured Gear. These will also gain the bonus from the Seasonal Artifact and will change every season. Set Bonuses

Set Bonuses are like Origin Traits for armor, a theme if you will, that can fold into the way your builds play. Which means you can pick 2 or 4 pieces of armor from that set to combine into an increased benefit. For this, we were introduced to two Set Bonuses that are coming in The Edge of Fate:

Aion Renewal:

  • 2-Piece Perk

    • Force Converter: After a final blow with missiles, Rocket, and Grenade Launchers, sprint for a short time to gain Speed Booster

  • 4-Piece Perk

    • Reactive Booster: Once per activation of "Anomalous Servos", sprinting while at critical health, being suspended, or slowed by a Stasis effect will immediately grant Speed Booster

Tecsec

  • 2-Piece Perk

    • Wrecker: You deal significantly increased Kinetic damage to overshields, combatant overshields, and constructs

  • 4-Piece Perk

    • Concussive Rounds: Defeating powerful combatants or breaking a combatant shield with Kinetic damage releases a disorienting Kinetic shockwave

Exotic Armor

There's been some confusion as to where current Exotic armor will land when The Edge of Fate launches and what they will look like when Exotics drop in Armor 3.0. This is to help clear up any confusion. Your Current Legendary and Exotic armor falls under the Armor 2.0 system, which will have have their stats converted 1:1 in the new system.

In The Edge of Fate new Exotic armor drops will inherit the following:

  • Stat Tier 2

  • Armor Archetypes

  • New Masterwork

  • Full energy

Ada-1 will be offering 20 free Exotic armor focusing per account to anyone with Tower access before The Edge of Fate releases. This will be available for the entirety of The Year of Prophecy and you will be able to focus any non-class item exotic to the Archetype of your choice (just so long as you have it unlocked in Collections).

Exotic Class items will be the only exotics that will be fully converted to the new system, with the left column perk determining the Archetype and the Tertiary stat by the right column perk. They will also be getting the max stats available for an Exotic - 30 in the primary stat, 20 in the secondary stat, and 13 in the tertiary stat. However due to this change, they will be losing their Artifice mod slot.
